Maria Samara

My name is Maria Samara. I am an English, German  and Greek speaking Music Therapist, (Master of Arts in Music Therapy, N.Y.U, New York, U.S.A), a GIM-therapist, a NICU trained Music Therapist,  a Music Breathing Practiotioner, a Music Pedagogue, and a Singer.

I have 23 years of extensive working experience with people of all ages and various populations (psychiatric, abused, drug users, children and adolescents suffering from life threatening illnesses like HIV/AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, developmental disabilities, emotionally disturbed, visually impaired, autistic, Down syndrome,  people with Dementia) and in different therapeutic settings       (Psychiatric and Children Psychiatric Hospitals, Medical settings, Hematology units, Institutions, Schools for exceptional Children, Day-Care centers, Rehabilitation Centers, Homes for people with Dementia), as well as in private practice, in New York,  Greece and now in Switzerland, using music as a pain relief or as a psycho-therapeutic medium.

I have participated with research papers about Music Therapy and GIM in many Psychiatric Conferences, in New York, Greece and Switzerland.  I have been invited as a guest lecturer in Universities, Training Programs, Hospitals and Centers for children with special needs.

I strongly believe that, all of us, human beings, are born with an innate sensitivity to tone and rhythm and with an innate potential to make and respond to music. We are all musical beings, and, in a way, we all, regardless the age, the emotional or mental state, the education and music knowledge, or any pathology, can make and/or experience music in our own unique way.

I am very passionate and dedicated both as a human being and as a therapist.  I have a humanistic approach and training.  I work towards my personal growth as a person and as a therapist, through personal therapy and continuing education.

I am an accredited Ordinary Member of the Swiss Association for Music Therapy (SFMT),  a member of the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) and a Board Member of the European Association for Music and Imagery (EAMI).

Since August 2013, I live, with my family,  in Luzern, Switzerland and founded MusiKing Studio.
