About Music Breathing (MB)

Music Breathing (MB) is an adaptation of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), which was created by Certified Psychiatrist, GIM therapist and Primary Trainer Dag Körlin, having as its basic principle using breathing to contain and modulate the level of arousal of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) while listening to music in an Alter State of Consciousness, as we do in the GIM.

The method was originally designed to prepare clients with traumatic stress disorders, for a full GIM session, but it has been proven to be a valuable tool and/or as a short-term method on its own, in different settings, for clients with anxiety, stress, clients facing crisis situations, in search of creative personal development, and as a means of self-care.

MB has four main stages: Discovery Breathing (DB), Silent Breathing (SB), Music Breathing for Grounding and MB for Modulation, and music is chosen respectively to evoke grounding and activation of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), as well as emotional modulation.

Music Breathing assesses the client's capacity to use music and imagery in a non-ordinary/expanded state of consciousness, initially in silence and then with music.  The client is supported and guided to create a personal music collection for self use.
